mythbusters said that given certain situations, dropping an electrical appliance in the tub wont actually fry you...but i still wouldnt try it...

I haven't tried it, but it's clear you require the boring explanation. A modern house will have a GFI circuit in the bathroom. If that doesn't trip a second after the appliance hits the water, then the circuit breaker will trip in the power distribution box. This is essentially a fail-safe system. If you live in an older home with fuses and no GFI circuits, then you're dead meat.
