Hi all.. I need winter tires.

I have a 2008 c230 with staggered tire sizes (FRONT: 225/45R 17 and REAR: 245/40R 17).

Mercedes Benz Co is suggesting that I get 225 all round with new rims. If I don't get all new rims then the back tire will stretch and wear out the walls. Other reputable tire garage places are saying that I don't have to buy new rims that I can just get the tire, 225 all the way around as they are geared to stretch (7" width - 9" width). Is this true...? I called Tirerack.com (they are the chepest btw) and they too suggested rims plus tires, just as Mercedes did... Are they just trying to push the package or is this really necessary??

Anybody had any experience with this I'd appreciate your comments. I'm new to this site and am searching for help...!!!!!
