RE: what to do to for winter time starts
diesel engine got heater plugs. if it's faulty, the "heat" malfunction indicator lamp keeps illuminated. if not faulty, it should go off after a few seconds.
you don't need an apartment to plug it.

Jewels, Don't know what sleepwalker was talking about but sleeptyping comes to mind.
I too am interested to know if there is a good fuel additive that someone can recommend to help with the cold weather starts. I've been stuck up at Whistler waiting for the sun to warm er up. Even at 0-5C it can have difficulty if outside for the evening.
(I seem to recall tractor diesels with an ether connection for cold starting. You give it a shot of ether gas and bang the engine fires)
Blackisbest.

blackisbest... that's why you like diesel.
the best additive is kerosene or aircraft turbine fuel. this comes handy especially if your other car is an airplane!
just use 5% volume. this will prevent negative influence due to precipitation of paraffin crystals.
