I am currently serving in Iraq and was looking into buying a mercedes when I get home. I received an offer from my friend for his mercedes but I thought I would ask around first. It is a 99' SLK 230 with a whopping 127,000 miles. Exterior body and paint look awesome. The inside has a little chipping but most do. He is asking $8,700 which seems like a great price but I am afraid that it might have too many miles. How many miles can you get out of these engines if well mainained? Any other questions I should ask to him?

I have a 99 slk 230Red with blk interiorand it has been the most troublesome car I have ever owned! I get a lot of flack from other MB owners on this site but I feel it is my duty to share my experience. These little cars are HIGH maintenance and the higher the mileage, the more costly they are to own, regardless of the price it sells for. Just look on this forum and you will see that these cars are complex and costlyto own and operate. If you are a good DIYer you will still have to get familiar with the idiosyncrasies of this machine. My advice:buy anything else no matter how pretty it looks. I wish I had.

Thank you serving also. I was over in Korean myself. 127,000 miles is a lot. I would say pass on this and find another one. A kid my son goes to school with has a 99 SLK230 with about 77,000 miles on it and it has been good for him. But theres always a chance of getting a bad one as I say. and with 127,000 miles your chance just increased.
