Default Need an oil change

Has anyone used a service other than the dealer to have their oil changed? My dealer has a $49.95 special to change the oil but will charge an additional $49 for synthetic oil. Is this a good deal?

Would a Jiffy Lube or something like that be worth it to get my oil changed?

Is it better to use synthetic oil for my car? I have an 02 SLK 230 Kompressor.

Sorry if this question has been posed before, I search the forum and didn't see this question addressed.

I use Jiffy Lube. I bring a factory filter ($20) and have them fill it with Quaker State full synthetic. I do this every 8000 miles and watch them work on my car. I take it to the same guys everytime so I know they know what they are doing. I have them fill the system a half a quart short so I can check the oil level at home latter my self. They always give me the extra half quart. and give me a discount for bringing my own filter. Usually totals $75 with tax.

They also changed my fuel filter which I got from GETCOOLPARTS.com (our sponser). $25 labor.

I am going to get a dip tube oil withdrawl system, so I can change my own oil at home.
Here is a link to instructions and gear. http://www.slk32.com/pages/oilchange/oilchange.html

hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.

BTW here is another pump that is a little bit easier to handle and made of plastic: http://www.jerrybleach.com/pelapumps.html

Nice find. We need something that will hold about nine quarts to avoid a big mess though.
