Default Help: Problem w/ SLK 230 antenna

I have a 2003 SLK 230 Kompressor that has a fixed mast antenna (black flexible plastic/rubber). Took the antenna off yesterday to go thru the car wash. Didn't go thru the wash but when I replaced the antenna now I get nothing but static on all Am and Fm stations. Did I somehow lose a connection? Any advice to fix this problem?
Thanks,
Barry[/align]

Did your antenna unscrew from the base? or did the base insert come off also?
The antenna mast-only should be a recessed "female" fitting but if the base insert would be longer...either way, open the trunk and try to reach into the slot where the trunk/top mechanism operates. You should be able to find the connector end of the antenna where the antenna cable screws on...if it is not attached it will have dropped down and you may be able to find it... with patience you can reattach and tighten.

btw, in the user manual it states NOT to remove the antenna as it is made to go through automatic car washes. Removal of the antenna will cause water to go into the shaft and cause corrosion and so with that-static. It may have to be totally replaced. Btw, I found this out when I owed a VW. Seems german cars do not like having their antennas removed.
