Default What years to stay away from?

What years should I stay away from when looking at used SL's? I know they had/have some reliability issues with the 2003 thru???

When did they start cutting corners and how new do I need to go before they started making great, reliable cars again?
Thanks, Chad

I think the reliability of '03-'06 cars is generally uniform. '07 and newer is improved.

Question

Define "generally uniform".

My bad left knee is forcing me to consider replacing my '00 Boxster S with something without a clutch . I still want a roadster. I had a chance to drive a '96 SL500 for a few days and was pleasantly surprised. If I went the SL route, I would be looking at something in the 2005-7 price range.
