Silent Alarm?

Silent Alarm?
Hey Guys,
Hope someone can help me with this!
I bought my 1997 white SL320 this weekend and I’m loving it!
(Only took 23 hours for someone to drive into her though) 
My only problem is my alarm.It doesn’tsound when I lock her (which the book says it should) and if I open the door with the alarm set by reaching in with the roof down she just flashes her indicators and no more...?
Anyone know if there is a way to turn the sirens on/off?
