Gas gauge on the 99 SL 500

Gas gauge on the 99 SL 500
For some reason, every time I fill up the tank on this 99 SL500 that I bought lately, the needle stops at the 3/4 mark even though the nozzle stops pumpimg.
Is this an inherit problem with this model or is there something to check that I am missing, any help is greatly appreciated.
