Default 99' C280 Gas Gauge Problems

My gas gauge is acting wierd. Every now and then my gas gauge will not register the true status of my fuel level and will show empty and the low fuel warning light will stay on. It has been happening with more frequency lately, but still only happens about 40% of the time. Any thoughts of what I can do to fix this problem? I would like to remedy the problem myself. Thanks!

This has been a known issue.

There is remedy.

Expensive one...and a cheap one.

I use the cheap one. Stop the car and turn the key off. Restart again. It's all good now. As simple as that.

Expensive remedy has to do with replacing the unit in the gas tank. Are you willing to part with a few Benjamins? Think not.

Sleep,

BV's car is 202. Doesn't the car have to go up on a lift?

Thanks for the replies - I will likely just stick with taking out the key to reset the gauge. This technique appears to work the majority of the time and doesn't cost me a dime.
