Default Diagnostic NOT seeing Roll Bar Sensor(s)

2008 SL550 top not working. Mechanic states diagnostic equipment not seeing the roll bar sensors. Any idea?
For background - I had the hydraulic pump rebuilt. Upon installation lost track of what hydraulic line went where. He has the lines in the proper spots but still can't get the roof to open/close. He can open the trunk from the computer but the computer is NOT seeing the roll bar sensors. Guy wants $175 an hour to rip the car apart and apparently it's a 14 hour project. I find it odd that diagnostic equipment doesn't see the sensors. Thoughts? Can't swing the $3K when the car is only worth ~$15k. Thanks in advance. Mike

Another MB Forum discusses this issue. I don't know enough about it to really help, but I would agree that paying $3k for the job is too much for a $15k car. Don't let the guy start working until you look this up thoroughly. Replacing the sway bar sensors doesn't look like a particularly easy job but DIY would be significantly cheaper than hiring a guy.

Sidenote: at least the guy's labor rate is not insane. $175/hr is standard at my dealership.
