Has anyone replaced the hood release cable on their 500SL? Getting the rubber bellows firewall seal out and replaced looks like a ghastly job. The fuse box and hood hinge cover virtually obscure it. It cannot, at least by me, be seen from under the dash, again hidden by the E brake assembly and wiring etc. Maybe it's an easier job on a 300SL.

Hah!

I wedged a paint stick between the fuse box and the hood hinge cover to open the gap and better reveal the rubber seal. I then used long needle nosed pliers to reach down and pull the seal out. The widened gap should make installing the new cable and seal easier as well.
