Default rear end noise

300 te wagon 1989 when I bought this wagon as I drove it there was a constant hum
as if you were flying a sortee heading to a bombing mission in a B 52.

The guy I bought it from said it needed rear tires well I know I am a fool that was not the case. Next got my trusty mechanic who knows nothing about Mercedes or as I now
know rear ends he went to junk yard a picked up another differential I guess put it in and total cost 1200 now it still sounds like pearl harbor.

I have been driving it now for a couple of months i just don't know how to proecd

any idea of problem and soultion and estimate? thanks Milage 172229

hi,
Sounds like a worn off bearing hub/Wheel bearings do try and check you waterpump ive experience that on my MB 1990 500SEL. These are wear and tear parts that u need to look upon.

if during idling still making the same noises well go and check on the fan clutch/Belt fan tensioner bearing/belt drives/alternator bearings/ these noises are related on parts moving.

btw do have a look on the long shaft mountings if they are harding / cracks/ damage. do replace them it will makew noise/ chassics shake in small vibrations at certain speed.

lets us know on the outcome ok

good luck
