Default 97 S500 Coupe Intermittent Lifter Tapping...not just when cold....

Last year, I bought a 97 S500 with 48,000 original miles on it, the car had been garage kept, not run in two years.....after replacing all bushings up front, and accumulators in rear, an a/c compressor, and a side driver window (ouch), tires, the car has run great....I'm now getting an intermittent lifter noise out of the right bank, first or second cylinder....it doesn't necessarily do it when cold....most when warm....it only does it when at idle, and sometimes will last up to 5 minutes, or go away after 30 seconds, then it won't do it at all for up to a week.....I know about the oil tubes, but wouldn't that cause it to do it all of the time?....and it sounds like just one lifter.....we used a steth to narrow it down.....my mechanic feels it should do it more often before we take the covers off.....that it may need to just loosen up, and doesn't feel we are causing any damage by driving....you guys have any idea what it could be.....I live in a warm climate and currently run GTX 20/50 in it....every 3000 miles.....

hi ,

well have a look under the valve cover , or try putting hydraulic valve lifter oil additive by liqui moly additive.

if still persist, have proper check on the valves lifter, im sure u will bumped into em and sort the problem

good luck
