Hi KS,
Yes, the engine is same as in Sprinter, 2.7L, 5cyl.,inline turbo diesel.
I'm waiting for some answers from friends, mechanics working on these vans here in Chicago area. (posible short time overheating of engine could be the cose). Will reply asap.
Regards,
Bernard

Hi KS,
sorry, no new info. I was loged to aldata, all procedures are there on how to replace your parts but no part numbers for them. I've also checked two Sprinters with 2.7 diesel after side/rear collision with only 22k miles on it but owner has already plan using it vehicle that had engine fire in it.
I'm sorry that I'm unable to help you out better.
I know another body shop guy who recently bought same engine out of new Sprinter that was in freight train collision for $5,000 with only 2 miles on it. I could ask for info where he bought it, I know they had two of them, he bought one and he still have the old engine with posible good pistons in it. I can find out, if you wish.

Hi Bernard

Too bad. so what is the conclusion ? Change piston or Ring or Valve or new engine ? What is your advice ?

As so If I change only the ring, I will still need to swap the whole engine ( overhaul ) ? Make not much different either change ring or piston...Same labor cost occurred.

Do you have aldata's link ? Let me know how much the piston is. Thanks

Regards

KS

Labor will be same for rings or piston+rings replacement because the pistons have to come out of the engine.
To do this job, engine has to be removed out of Dodge Sprinter but I'm 99% sure it can stay in your since there is alot more room in ML to work on it.
Oil pan and cylinder head has to come off to get the pistons out.
Ones they are out, they will tell the whole story about your car's past.
Send your private e-mail address to me: b.melus@sbcglobal.net
and I will try to send more info to you asap.
Also try to post your questions in diesel section of this forum because non of the ML270CDI was sold in US and most of these guys here have gasoline engine in their trucks.
