How to fix and paint headlight washer cover, hood vents
My headlight washer cover in the bumper has peeled badly. To remove the cover, flip it open with a blade and use long pliers or a bent coat hanger to release the two springs then gently slip the two arms off their pivots. Time: 30 seconds. The old paint came off in huge flakes with a razor blade. Wash with dishwashing liquid and dry. Buy OEM color spray cans, $50 for a pair of cans with paint and clear coat. $8 for plastic adhesion promoter. Heat all spray cans to about 80 degrees in a water bath. Spray in a dust free warm place. 3 coats of each = 9 coats. You do all 9 costs back to back but follow the wait time directions between each coat. 3 min for adhesion promoter, longer for the other six coats. Let harden for 3-7 days. It takes about 90 minutes to do the 9 coats. Spray from 8-12 inches away. Same procedure to paint the two ugly, cheap looking hood vents. Hood vents take about 10 minutes to remove. If they are old, they will crack. aftermarket replacements cost about $40 for a pair. the finished result looks factory from 18 inches away.
