2006 paint issue
After I got back from my holiday traveling I washed my black 2006 c230 and noticed about 8 star shaped paint chips all over my hood. I did not ever hear anything hitting my hood but I tend to listen to the radio loud. My question is it seems the paint on the hood is not very durable or thick for that matter comparative to other vehicles I have owned, do you think I should try to get the dealer to do something about the chips or just have the hood painted and pay myself?

RE: 2006 paint issue
The following text was found on http://www.wheels24.co.za/Wheels24/R...692395,00.html and I have seen similar reference to the "revelutionary paint" on other sites. I believe it was first used on the E class and upwards in 2004.
"Despite all these changes the most interesting upgrade to the C-Class is its high-tech scratch-resistant paint, which gives it the edge over its rivals. This revolutionary paint is clearcoat based on nano-particle technology, providing greater scratch resistance".
I should take it back to the dealer to see if he is aware of problems with this type of paint and get him to fix it as it could be costly.

RE: 2006 paint issue
Under US laws most car manufactuers use water based paint, thin coats, and more cleacoat. My 99 has had the hood completely repainted once, the shop didn't use a water based paint, but it has been 18 months and there are some chips. 3M makes a protective clear stickon coating for most cars, that is barely visible, I should have had it put on when I had my hood repainted. Trouble is dealers gouge you for it and you need to find a shop that will do it at a reasonable price. the stuff works, I had my formerly owned BMW done and it didn't have a chip on it when I traded it for the Mercedes.
