Default 2002 ML320 Buzzing sound...

Hello everyone, im obviously new to these forums and I am glad i found this place because my ML320 is having an abrupt issue and I want to know opinions on what it could possibly be. Today after some grocery shopping, 3 of the service lights turned on.. BAP, ESP, ABS. In addition to that, a loud buzzing sound was emanating somewhere on the left side of the truck.. The only way to get it to stop was to press the brakes, even slightly. There was vibration coming from the break pedal as well, and if the brakes were held down the buzzing sound would be muffled but would still be there. When I got home and turned the car off, the buzzing sound was still happening and i checked and it definitely sounds like it is coming from the front-left side of the vehicle.. a couple hours later i check on the vehicle and it is still making the noise even with the truck turned off. What can this crazy problem be, and I am also not looking forward to the price range of fixing something like this Thanks in advance!

The sound is your ABS pump not turning off. First try to remove and reconnect the fuse for ABS system, then replace the brake pedal switch which is the cheapest and most common problem of the breaking circuit (only $10 at the dealer). You may have to turn the steering wheel from far left to far right (lock to lock) to reset the BAS/ESP system. If the switch is fine then one of the ABS sensors could be bad.
Good luck,
Bernard

ML2546, My ML320 is doing the EXACT same thing! I thought it was a crazy unique problem, you described this down to the last detail. My car is doing ALL of these things, brakes, lights on dash, buzzing AND even after car is turned off.... How did you fix this? What was the problem??? I too am worried about the cost to fix!!!

try the abs relay, they have been know to stick. relay chart is on the bottom of your fuse box lid. you can remove the relay and just drive like a normal car without ABS.

Thank you so much everyone!!! I took it to a friend and he removed the ABS fuse, and yes now I am driving withou ABS, it was draining my battery also, so now I have no issues.... thanks!

Questions: Is this problem fixable by mercedes? how much does it cost to fix this ABS problem? (I was told the problem is the ABS Brain, and the pump alone is $1000!!) and lastly, My lights are still on first 3 on dash (BAS ABS ESP)... how do I turn these off?

Thanks in advance!!

if the fuse is pulled you probably could get bas esp light, the light could also be on from the bad ABS pump or brake lamp switch.

Thanks for posting this. One of my Mercedes had the same problem. ML420

I tried pulling the ABS fuse, it stopped the sound but it kept coming back when I put the fuse back in.

I decided to remove the ABS relay before I went out to buy the brake light switch and while I was wiggling the relay to remove it, sound stopped, then I removed it, sound still stopped. I tapped the relay a few times and then put it back in, all the lights are now off (ABS, BAS/ESP etc) and no more buzzing noise. Not sure how long it will last but it seems my problem was a stuck relay.

Thanks again for posting your experiences

I had the exact same problem with my 2000 ML 320. All I had to do is tap on the ABS relay and it stopped...for now. 2 of the 3 lights turned back off immediately and I just had to turn the steering wheel all the way from left to right and back again a couple of times and the 3rd light turned off also.
