Default 2001 ML320 BAS ESP Please Help

Hi, I just changed my rear control arm along with the rear brake pads, rotors, and parking brakes. Im driving down the highway and my bas esp light comes on. After a while it goes off. Then two days later driving on highway again and BAS ESP light comes on and stays on. Does anyone know if having the parking brakes too tight can cause this. I believe I installed everything right but when i took the old rotors off the parking shoes were in pieces and fell apart. It was throwing rust on my rim. Has anyone had this BAS ESP problem and does anyone know where I should begin to look to diagnose??????? Please Help. Thanks, Danny

Danny,
go back to your rear wheels and check connections on both wheel speed sensors and wiring. Could be that the harness of the sensor is rubbing on our control arm and shorting out ones in a while or you have pulled on harness while changing the control arm and now you have bad connection.
Also it could be brake pedal stop light switch going bad, if you never replaced it yet, it's only $13 at the dealer and very common problem for the BAS ESP light.

Under driver's kick panel right above the pedal. You have to remove the panel to see it, if you search this forum for brake switch, I posted instructions about 2 months ago.
Very easy task, disconnect the electrical connector, squeeze locking tab on the side of the switch to be able to twist it 90 deg. counterclockwise and pull it streight out of the bracket. Part No. for switch is: A 001 545 87 09
I had to replace mine in october of last year because of the BAS ESP lights. Stainless steel spring acting sheet metal contact will brake off after so many cycles of bending it back and fort inside of the switch, just bad design. Second set of contacts in that switch has a clasic design, regular spring for contact return and could outlast the other set 10 times.
Good luck,
Bernard

Default BAS light still on

Hi, I replaced the brake stop switch and the bas esp light still comes on. Do I need to reset the light somehow? If so is there a way to do it? Also, if its not the brake stop switch what else could it be or where should I start to look? Do the brakes or parking brake have anything to do with bas esp light? Thanks for all the help

Condition of the brakes has nothing to do with these lights.
You have to reset them by starting the car and turning your steering wheel from lock to lock (max. left and right position both ways). Light should turn off right away.
