I picked up my new GLE350 4Matic and noticed a slight buzzing or humming noise between gears in automatic. I wonder if this is normal. I went back to Mercedes and a mechanic drove the car. He noticed the strange sound and did not know what it is. Then, he took a brand new GLE350 4Matic from the lot and we drove it. This new, same car as mine, also has the same transmission shifting sound (patterns). We have a GL450 4Matic and an older ML350 4Matic in our family and they shift smoothly. Please advise.

Hi Gerhard, I just picked up my new GLE 350 4Matic and think i maybe seeing the same thing. Are you referring to the low tone humming muffler sound coming from rear? It usually happens right after shifting (or when the RPM is relatively low). I've had this car for 5 days and i am hearing it more and more each day. Has your dealership managed to improve it by any chance?

 

I went back to Mercedes and drove several new GLE 350 and GEL350 4Matic. All have exactly the same sound. I just accepted it. I believe there is no way to improve it.
