Default Wiper system thudding noise

Hi
As a new member I am hoping for a little help.
I have a E300 TD Estate and the front single wiper system makes a thud noise while operating. I took it to my local Mercedes dealership and they said this is a non servicable item and will cost in excess of £700 UK for a replacement motor & mechanism.
Is there any things I can check or lubricate to find out the problem.

Any help would be much appreciated.

just fixing it will sooner make the problem back again.

locate the noise and replace the part.

How can I find out where the fault is or do I have to replace the complete wiper system?

if the noise is from the gearing, then that's what you need to change.
