Default Wheel sizes?

Hello MercedesForum(ers),

I am considering purchasing purchasing a W211 2008 E350 4Matic with sport package.
The car comes with 18”X8.5” et38 wheels and 245/40R18 tires. Will 17”X8” et38 and 245/45R17 tires fit (clear the brake caliper and not rub in the wheel well)? I don’t know if the sport package brings bigger brakes and/or different suspension.

Thank you,
Rich(new member)

Hello and welcome to the forum Rich! The 17s should work fine with your car - why are you going to a smaller wheel? For a bit more info on wheel fitment and spacing, take a look at the link below to a really helpful guide. Thank you Pelican Parts! I’m looking for a smoother ride, more side wall to deal with curbs/bumps/potholes (previous owner/owners put curb rash on every wheel), and reduced cost of tire replacement. I know looking for a non sport package car would be ideal, but I may be able to get a good deal on this car.

Completely understandable - a lot of people downsize the wheels for those exact reasons. As mentioned, I don't foresee any issues, the tires are going to be a bit taller going from a 40 to a 45 - that's about it.
