Default Water Pump Question

I own a 87 300E (gas). This weekend it started to leak coolant fairly constantly (steady drips, only when the engine is running). It was coming from the driver's side of the engine up toward the front. The best I can tell it is the water pump. As I was removing the pump I notices there is a hole in the block just down and to the left of the lower left water pump mounting bolt. Does anyone know if there is supposed to be a bolt in this hole?

Thanks,

Jim

Default RE: Water Pump Question

Thanks for the quick reply. If you don't mind I have one additional question. I just picked up a replacement water pump from Auto Zone (Duralast new unit). It has an extra heater pipe fitting located on the thermostat neck. My car only has one heater pipe connection facing the engine block. Does anyone know if there is a plug that is supposed to go in this additional hole? I'm assuming the pump is universal for several years and thus has this extra fitting. However my pump did not come with a plug. Has anyone run into this before?

Thanks again,

Jim
