I recently had a new vacum modulater installed in my e 400. After that I expierenced slippage, almost full failure to engage when leaving stops, and or going from reverse to d. This abberation was not happening when it went in to shop. I have since had it back in, and told shop of problem, which was intermittent; and they say they did not expierence. Prior to going back in problem seemed to be increasing in frequency. Now my vehicle is back from shop, and miracle of miracles does not seem to slip; as before first visit. So my question is could an improperly installed or adjusted vacum modulater be the cause of this now absent slipage.

sleepwalker, all seems to be working well at this time. My question is, if not in installed or adjusted correctly, could the modulator be responsible for the slipage I expierenced between it's initial replacement, and my return visit to mechanic. Modulator was replaced due to leakage. Hard shifting was expierenced, but there was no apparent slipage until after the modulater was replaced. This slipage seems to have passed since I returned for other work, and reported slipage. My point, is it probable mechanic went back and adjusted modulater to adress slipage; as a response to not doing so initially. This is about credibility and having a straight relationship with shop that is getting top dollar.

too high pressure from the modulator will cause hard engagement and too low will cause slippage during acceleration.
