Default Transmission/engine electronics issue

1998 E320 Wagon, 6cyl/automatic, 100 000 miles. Everything's been great since I bought the car two years ago. Until about two months ago, while driving in mountains, the transmission didn't shift to the biggest gear. I slowed dowin, put it in neutral and tried again, and it worked normally again.
Two weeks ago same thing happened in city, twice, once on freeway, once on surface street. In both cases, I had to come to complete stop, shut off and restart, until car worked normally again.

Yesterday same thing happened again, but at this time, "Check Engine Electronics" text came on, and the "Check Engine" symbol is on as well.

I have my own scanner, the reading gave me codes

"0700 Read ETC fault memory," and
"1570 Fault In DAS to Engine Control Module (A61)."

Does anybody know what that means? What is DAS? What needs to be fixed? The car seems to run normally, thou, cleaned the codes.

check the transmission control module could have trans fluid in it. under the hood passenger side in the module box. youll need a phillpis or a torx to open it up. the trans module will say EGS on the control unit or you might see or feel oil on the wire harness going into the trans control unit.

Thank you, although locating transmission control module seems to be a challenge.

It easy there will be 3 or 4 control units in the module box, all lined up verticlally beside one another you can look at the labels on them and youll see one that says egs thats the trans module.. If you decide to look for transfluid in it youll need to unplug the connectors on the module, just make sure the key is off and out of the ignition or else you could cause some trouble codes. IF ITS WET IN THE CONNECTORS THEN YOUVE GOT OIL COMING INTO YOU HARNESS FROM THE TRANSMISSION ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR ON THE TRANS. WHEN YOU SHIFTING MANUALLY THREW THE GEARS LOOK IN THE CLUSTER TO SEE IF THE GEARS ARE CORRECTLY BEING DISPLAYED IN THE CLUSTER. SHOULD SEE ALL 1-5 GEARS. YOU COULD HAVE A FAULTY SHIFTER ASSEMBLY, OR TRANSMISSION ELECTRICAL PLATE IN THE TRANS. THEY GET FINE METAL PARTICLES ON THE SPEED SENSORS THEN WEIRD STUFF CAN HAPPEN.
