Default Timing issues, help please...

I recently replaced the distributor cap on my 1989 190E because the old one was broken. It now works and turns on properly; however now the engine is rumbling a bit and I believe the timing is off - anybody know what I have to do to adjust it? I have been told vaguely that the camshaft needs to be rotated a bit, but I'm not too much of a mechanic and need some help.

thanks.
