The Stuttgart-based company said that models with six- and eight-cylinder engines need to have the voltage regulator examined and, if needed, replaced.
On the E-class and CLS-class models, built from January 2002-January 2005, battery control software will be installed. The company also said the braking system on the E, SL and CLS-class made since June 2001 would be updated.
The company has set up a hot line for European customers at +800-1-777-7777.

RE: Recall..please read...might apply to you..
mercedes USA reps have no idea that there is a re-call. my car is to be serviced tomorrow and no one has any idea of the recall. I mentioned the news. They responded "we were not told of any recall" sorry". I guess I can be certain they will call me after I pick up my vehicle. I am becoming very dissatisfied with MBUSA. I end up needing sevice about every 3 weeks. Purchased it 3 months ago. What a mistake.

It takes at least some time for the intent of a manufacturer's HQ to reach the bottom rungs of an organization.
Safety recalls are sometimes announced by the US government before the manufacturer has everything in place. Sometimes announcements are made in spite of the manufacturers wishes to delay an announcement, since they tend to use stall tactics on safety recalls. Safety recalls are not voluntary in the US.
Even if your service department hears of the recall on the news, they can't proceed without authorization and instructions from Germany, unless they want to pay for what would amount to unauthorized repairs themselves. In other words, Fox News or Yahoo doesn't decide recall procedures for MB or any other car manufacturer.
