I don't use that feature (window regulator you know) but I got better range with the locks when I bought a new key.

Dave,
I have a 2004 model and the windows can only open or close by remote from standing right next to the driver's door. I believe this is where that sensor is located.

thanks guys... i was looking into a new key... i just can't believe that a good feature like that would be made to work so worthless, i mean if i got to stand next to the car to put the windows up or down, i might as well just have shut them before i get out or get in... lol!!!

anyway, thanks guys!!!! GOOD DAY!!!!

Thumbs up Correct

The auto up / down feature for all of the windows as actuated by the key fob only works when standing near the driver's door. That's how it goes.

My guess is that Mercedes didn't want anyone pocket-activating the window feature on accident. That would be bad indeed.

Good luck.

door un/locking is performed using radio frequency, whereas the door and roof 'convenience'
operation is designed around infrared. so the latter requires near-field line of sight...which
you'll see by the tic-tac size IR window next to each front door handle

you may want to review the IR lens on the key as well as the door. if it has oxidized badly
or scratch (damaged) you may want to consider buffing it a tad
