Default Mercedes remote key

I have a 320 slk and only have one of the remotes. I have noticed used remotes for sale pretty cheap. Does anyone know what it takes or if the dealer can reprogram a remote from one car to another and if they can also cut a new key blade? Also does anyone know what this should cost?

Thanks,

Do not buy a remote from e-bay or from another car. They will not work nor can they be reprogrammed. Unfortunately that is a dealer only item.

Here's what I did... I got to know the guy at the dealer service station, they actually can order the keys for $75 delivered from Germany. I tipped him a C note.

$175 vs $300+? I made my deal.

I may be ordering another key. If I do this in the future, I'll see if the guy will help others out for the same cost or for $100 a key and post something on this forum. The dealership is in NJ.

I encountered this great expense after the key part broke off of the remote. It was 350.00 USD to replace both keys. The keys are laser cut and are all identical. The service tech at my dealership walked out with me to program them for me (free of charge, of course...LOL) ,pressed buttons and stuck the key into the ignotion and the car did the rest of the programming. I woudn't think that any universal or replacement key would work. I would also worry that a non factory replacement key may mess up the cars ability to program new keys... you had better bite the bullet!
