Default tint/remote locking question

A friend of mine has a newer model mercedes with the antenna for the keyless entry on the rear of the roof. They had the back window tinted, and afterwards the keyless entry only works sometimes. MB said the tint person must have gotten water inside the relay box located in teh back of the car in the headliner, they also said the whole window must be replaced. The tint won't pay to fix it unless MB puts it in writing that he is the cause. My question is this, if the tint guy really caused this problem by getting water in the box wouldn't it not work at all, instead of sometimes? Secondly, I know tint on the window can mess with radio reception, but what about keyless reception? Also if water was the cause why does MB want to replace not only the unit but the entire back window? I don't see why unless it affects the reception that the whole window needs to be replaced. Any input would be appreciated, he is thinking about getting a lawyer and going after them.

Thanks,
FA

When something becomes defective and no longer works as designed, it's difficult to predict exactly how it will work.

The service writers would, as a general rule, write down the reason for a repair. I've asked them to write something down specifically on the work order before to cover my ***. If they're saying it was the tint guys fault, then tell them to write that on the order. They should do it without a fuss.

As far as the window replacement, are they saying the entire window needs to be replaced because there's tint on it--that replacing only the relay won't do any good if the tint stays?

The window thing is what confuses me so much. Why do they want to replace the whole thing? By the way they did refuse to write that on the service order. I don't know why because I am getting everything second hand. Hopefully I can find out some more information.
Thanks for your input so far.

it's a 2005 c 230, I think, and another dealership told them that the reception for the keyless is in the back windshield which is why they have to replace the whole thing. Is that correct?

W203?

the one on the top inner part of the windshield is the antenna amplifier.

maybe he only got remote key and not keyless-go.

if he uses metallized window foil, then it will reduce the reception by 70% on AM, FM and TV by 10%, and 50% for range of radio remote control.

another problem:

if they cut the tint after installing it, then they must have cut also the antenna wire embedded on the glass. if they did, both the glass and the amplifier needs replacement.
