Power Trunk not working correctly anymore
My 2005 E320 (CDI) power trunk has stopped working. It stopped working after sitting outside in 20 degree weather for 5 days in Chicago. (It is normally in an unheated garage.) When I open the trunk, it unlocks and the lid pops open only 4 inches. The light inside the trunk is on at this point. I now have to manually lift the trunk to the open position. (Not an easy task. I seem to be fighting a motor or other friction) When opened manually, the trunk light goes off, the power close button goes off, and the emergency release button is glowing green. This seems to indicate the trunk lid thinks it is closed.
To close the trunk lid, I either have to manually muscle it down and slam it, or close it to within 4 inches of latching (at which time the trunk light comes back on, as does the power close button), and use the now working power close button, risking sandwiching my fingers in the trunk.
The drive unit is is behind the left side turnk panel. I have seen the bolts back out of them. Is it running at all? The unit is preaty much self contained. If you buy the motor you get the gears. Not much to it. If it is not running, check for power!
So the weather is finally co operating with me enough where I could comfortable remove the drivers side wall from the truck and examine the power motor. Everything looks perfect. The units works (as described above) only when the trunk lid is inches from being closed. It seems as thought the sensors don't really know where the truck lid is.
* Can anyone tell me what fuse to pull to reset the motor? I would love to know what the trunk panel fuses do, but the dealer basically told me its a secret. (Honest.... Good old World Wide Motors, the Indianapolis Mercedes Benz dealer we bought the car from. But for $1500, they would fix it.... hahahaha)
* Is there a cable that goes to the motor that I can disconnect to reset it? I can't find the actual motor power.
I disconnected the battery, but this did not reset it.
Thanks in advance!
p.s. it's a CDI, in case this matters for the fuses.
