Need help! Transmission fluid has metal particles
Just changed my ATF and filter on my 1992 300E with 44,000 miles total. 30,000 miles since last change. I found small bits in the drain pan after draining the torque converter. Then drained the transmission and also found some bits. The transmission pan was very clean and no bits left after the fluid was drained. The bits are not magnetic. I opened the filter and very little in the way of bits. Is it common to see small bits in the drained fluid?
I bought this mint 300E two years ago with 34,000 miles. Car was regularly serviced and records show ATF had been changed twice before in the 23 years and 34,000 miles of previous ownership. This was a true "older ladies car" that was never abused. Should I be concerned or is a small amount of bits considered normal wear and tear on a automatic transmission?
