How many miles are the Mercedes good for?
I have a 1995 E320 with 83K miles, & it is presently in the shop for head gasket replacement & motor mount failure. 83K miles????? I'm totally disappointed with MB longevity and this is a very expensive repair.
___t happens. Sorry about the repair. Don't go to a dealer for that fix. The total repair bill should come to no more than $600. How long have you had the car? You may have just paid for the previous owner's problem. Don't be disappointed with MB just yet. Give us more info on your ride such as how long you have owned it etc... The experts may be able to give you more insight into the situation.
300CE is a beautiful car. Currently, my 190 has about 490k on original block and tranny. The fuel injection was replaced. The 2000CLK is right at 200k with only two sensors replaced totalling $600. You have to get a car that was well cared for by the original owner. Of course on the other hand, my friend bought a 300E out of the junkyard, unseized the engine with a wrench and hammer, filled it up with oil and is now driving it.
Scuddog, I've owned the car since 1999. It was purchased from a dealer as a "Certified Pre Owned", on the same day I purchased a 1999 ML320 (that's another story in itself). This is my wife's car, & has not been abused. Oil/Filter is changed every 3K miles, & I used Mobil 1. I had problems with the wiring harness a few years back, & apparently there was a issue with this part.
I wish I knew were a good shop was to take my cars in the STL area. I'm not having a very good Mercedes week as my ML quit running at the Lake of the Ozarks & had to be towed to STL. Crank case sensor, check engine came on E320, O2 sensor, vacuum line & oil leak caused by "blown head gasket". SL500 also blow a head gasket. Och!
I'm searching for help of advice!
Thanks

Ouch sorry about all of that. To make you feel better during the winter last year my wifes winter car(GMC SUV)[:@]was leaking gas, My C280(Only Mercedes I use in the winter) Check Engine light came on all in the same week. 3/4 people drive in our family and we had one car to use for two days. A 2004 Dodge Caravan SXT(29,000 MILES). Talk about confusion.
Scarpuci - We've all been there. I"m sorry but I can't speak for your ride. I had a 1990 300E with 155K on the clock when I sold it. I feel like I spent more money on it in a year than I do on my 1998 E320. Don't get me wrong though... I have had the $800+ repair bills. Heck, my wife's CRV (190K) is in the maintenance zone and don't let anyone fool you... Honda parts aren't cheap. I literally pray that the A/C doesn't go as this is a minimum of $2K to fix. Her tranny could go... and it would cost as much to fix as the tranny on my E320. I've researched it. If you want to sell your car... do some research first. There are great threads out there that will help you find "good" MB models and years. All cars have problems... that's why folks buy new cars. It's unfortunate that you have been paying for someone else's issues. I bought my E320 from a wholesale lot and sunk $2K into it before I even put 100 miles on it. The maint since then has been relatively light and I do my own oil/filters. As the 4th owner, I can tell that the previous owners didn't exactly baby the maintenance schedule. I'm happy but was nervous about 50K miles ago... not anymore! Good luck.
My E320 is by far the cheapest and easiest to maintaine. The 420SEL is great also. Unfortuanlty the C280 is a nightmare. I have owned it for 3 years and put more then $3,000 into it. I had my 2002 E320 since new and put no where near $3k into it. I just put $1,035.00 into my C280 on alignment, springs, wheel straighning filter and tire rods. And to top it all off I am comming due of a service in less then 5,000 miles. I still to this day wish I bought another W210. Fantastic car all around.
All hail the W210 chassis!
Just came back from my indie's shop where I dropped off for a cat replacement. The usual slew of Volvos and BMWs were there. Every Benz had over 100K on the lot. I had some time to kill while waiting for my wife to pick me up. My average cost to own comes out to $236/month. This is only a ratio of repairs/supplies divided by the number of months that I have owned the car. The depreciation can only be estimated at this point. Hopefully I won't even consider figuring out that ratio for years to come!
