How does she drive? Does she crash a lot? Does she beat on cars a lot or just doesnt take care of them?

Isn't it amazing how women can take nearly any vehicle and drive the **** out of them for months without any thought to what they are doing? I'm still in awe at how hard my sister drives her Passat. Washington D.C., winter time, sub freezing temps and she puts the key in, starts and drives away after it fires up for about 1 second. Amazing. Then she will hit 5K rpm within seconds as she merges into traffic. If ever there was a perfect test candidate for that mystical porcelean engine... she would be it! I've worked on my wife over the past few years, so she has learned to respect an ice cold engine...

Since I live in the northeast. I usually let my car warm up for a min or so before putting it into drive.

Me too. Every AM... turn the key, fire it up and wait the 30 secs or so before the tach dips back below 1K rpm. I do it every time that I drive. If the car is already somewhat warm... I don't have to wait hardly at all. In my opinion it means less stress on the tranny when it becomes engaged at the lowest rpms possible.

Drove past a farm today coming back from Baltimore. Saw the rear end of an old 500SEC poking out of a barn. It was darker in color and seemed to demand attention. I wonder..... My wife then punched me and told me to keep driving.... Ha!

ha ha ha. Thats funny about the SEC. My wife would kill me if I ever brought home another Mercedes. I have three already and she wants me to get rid of the 420SEL. But its a bad economy and that car will not sell and I enjoy it and its only at 113,000 miles. Its got plenty of life left.

I recently purchased a 1989 MB 300E in pretty good overall condition,at least better than most MB I see of that vintage.
The clock now stands at over 211,000 and the engine appears to be very tight still. Heck the whole car feels tighter than a say a 4-5 year old GM,Ford,Chrysler etc. and my car is nearly TWENTY years old!

My friends parents 1988 300TE(same basic drivetrain) has a little over 328,000 miles, has a lot more miles in her to give and it is their daily transportation.

They have had at least one Mercedes the whole time Ive known them(since the 70s) and to total up all the miles on their cars would be impressive.

Since Ive known them they have never bought new, only used and all of them have had over 200K miles when they were killed(untimely death for at least one I know that was T-boned with only 260K+ miles on the clock) or died. One early/mid seventies MB they owned had the most with over 400,000 miles, but it had a engine rebuild in there somewhere.

The father who is now retired used to commute about 120 miles per work day for over twenty years and would only drive a Benz, preferably a diesel if that tells you anything. He had his own plug in at work for the engine warmer and all of the cars were left out side in an uncovered lot while he was at work so they were not babied other than their routine maintenance.
