E320(2000) Vibration
I have a vibration feed back at between 50 and 65 mph. It does not vibrate under or over those speeds. Have had tires rotated and balanced, then replaced tires, then an alignment. Still a vibration. ANyone run in to this problem and what was your remedy.
I had a 2000 E320 which had a similar problem. With mine it originally started with slight vibration at 120kph. Over time the vibration would start anytime I approached 100kph (62mph). Eventually it started at about 80kph...very frustrating. The dealer was unable to find anything wrong with the car. They went through the usual culprits of tires/wheel/balance, alignment, suspension, etc. I called MB which got the regional service manager involved. In my case they swapped all four wheels AND tires together from another vehicle and the problem went away (perhaps a dodgy tire belt? - don't know). I only mention my same problem because a few possibilities were outlined to me at the time that you may want to investigate. The drive shaft balance was considered as a possible source but later discounted. The other thing they did, was to ensure that the tire/wheel balance was actually accurate (All four of my original wheels/tires had indicated good balance?!). They calibrated their balancer just prior to the balance job to ensure it was indeed accurate. This probably doesn't apply to your situation but food for thought nonetheless.
Tim,
I had the same problem with my 2000 E430 actually also in Houston. I got the 18" after market wheels re-straightened, new tires, balanced several places, alignment - still would not go away.
Then! Discovered several things wrong with the front of the car.
1) Lower front left ball joint bad and was replaced,
2) Front lower control arm bushings replaced,
3) Engine mounts were bad -
These 3 problems were all fixed at the same time - now it’s so smooth and also, I can’t tell the engine is running when at an idle

Hi,
What wheels and tyres are fitted. Are they OE?
Petrol or diesel?
When did the problem start. During your ownership?
What mileage has the car covered.
Have you had the car inspected for worn track rods, suspension bushes etc. these begin to give problems at circa 80k.
How were the wheels balanced. On car or off the car? With this sort of problem it is best done off car.
How many balance weights (grms or ounces) are there on each wheel? does one wheel have an unreasonable amount on it?
Is the garage you went to a reputable dealer. Do you believe their equipment in good order / calibrated?
Is the vibration vertical (i.e. thru your bottom/seat) or is it horizontal (i.e. through the steering wheel = ****le)
The speed you indicate is somewhat on the low side of the usual tyre induced shake which is usually in the 60 to 75 mph range.
Have you checked the wheels for roundness? Maybe one has been kerbed.
For there to be a vibration there has to be an input.
This is most likely the wheel tyre assemblies.
However the suspension system may be more sensitive to input than it should be due to wear in suspension components. These problems are usually down to a combination of factors and are therefore difficult to correct.
Are the engine mounts in good order? i.e. No rubber separation.
Is the prop shaft rubber "doughnut" in good order?
Good luck.
Stuart.

Very similar problems. Guess what fixes it. New Flex Disc front and rear,Drive Shaft Balance and drive shft bushing. My local independent mechanic did and excellent job. THe job was covered by my warranty. Thanks God otherwise I could be in hole financially. Mine is 1995 E320.
