Default E class - dilemma

I'm currently considering a pruchase of a new E class. My dillema is whether to purchase 4matic or rear transmission?

Default Needs vs Wants

If you live in a climate that gives you lots of snow and ice... the 4Matic would make some sense. In my opinion, it's not necessary unless you live in an area where winter is a very long season.

The 4Matic has the potential to give you more problems over the long run. It's more to take care of. Unless someone chimes in... I also think that it has a negative effect on your gas mileage.

My vote is for rear wheel drive unless you live in Chicago etc...
Good luck.
