RE: Dash display - clock and gear selection
hello. i have mercedes c220 cdi, i had the same probelm. I fixed this by stripping the clocks until you see the electrical ribbon going from the display to the curcuit board, Mine have three of these. I sprayed contact cleaner followed by compressed air along the contact. This has fixed the problem, although i had to do it three times.
hope this helps

RE: Dash display - clock and gear selection
For the record, I have the same problem with the display on my '02 CLK55. In fact, that's why I joined this Forum, to find help on this agonizing problem.
Any updates our there? A class-action lawsuit sounds fine, and I'd sign up for certain. But I need more practical help too. One post talks about tracing wires back to a board to clean the contacts. What's the best way to find out what's involved in this type of job. Are the boards buried in the dash for certain? Do I need a maintenence manual or CD...if so, any recommendations to get a Mercedes official CD??
Is there a good option out there to buy a used display and/or dash? Sounds like a lot of work for something likely to fail again...is the display that hard to replace? Any information would be greatly appreciated. (send names of good lawyers too).

RE: Dash display - clock and gear selection
I have a 2000 model E-320 and I've had the same problem since I bought the car used about a year ago. Now I can't read the time, temp,or gear readings at all. It started flickering about a week after I bought the car, as did the Service B light cam on, and the SRS light stays lit all the time now. Not worth the money to fix it, the car still operates well otherwise.
How do we start a recall or class-action suit?

RE: Dash display - clock and gear selection
My '01 E320 wagon has just started to show this same symptom where the clock and gear selection indicators are missing numerous pixels. This is generally somethkng that happens at first start for the day. If I drive long enough (generally less than half an hour) the display seems to repair iteslf.
I seem numerous postings here for a faulty display but do not see any for a self-healing system and what could be causing this in the first place.
Has anybody else seen this and are there any thoughts as to what is causing this and how it might be corrected?
Thanks
