Dash display - clock and gear selection

I have a 2000 E320 and the dash display for the clock and gear selection is faulty. Portions of the LED (?) display don't illuminate so it looks like it is missing pixels on a computer display. From what I can see, it looks like the info is correct, it is just the display that is hard to read.

Mying has the same issue(sightly worse - can't read the temp fully or the time...) It would of been great of they made it in the same quality as the center digital display....Seems the dealer told me you need to replace entire dash display...

whoever designs that thing, did really make a lot of people unhappy. isee them from time to time and am not happy either.

the part is not replaceable separately...but few people are willing to spend a several hundred $ for the missing 3 pixels.[:@]

Thanks. That is what I concluded as well. Having the "perfect" display is not worth the cost.

I just got a "new" to me 2001 E320. When I had the dealer print out the service records that thing has had TWO replacement instrument panels under warranty. Both complaints were outside temp display not working.
My gear position display looks like it has a few dead pixels, no way does this car get a third instrument panel. SHAME on you MB

How long does Mercedes warranty for this kind of fault last. I have the same problem om my 4yr old car!

SleepWalker, any chance that one can get Mercedes to fix this at no customer expence?

there has been no recall or service measure on it, so no chance.

The service records on my '01 show 2 replacement for this problem. Sounds like a "class action" type of item. MB knows this unit is designed poorly
and has a HIGH MTBF (failure rate) Shame on you MB.

Suffering the same fate as you all. My 2001 E320 clock, gear display and temp display are all on the fritz. How many people do we need for a suit?

Don't know but just about EVERY MB owner with this dash cluster has the same problem. The local repair shop owner told me he has seen over a hundred of these. The cluster is $800 at his cost and MB charges between $1700 and $2000 to do the replacemant. This just gets you another poorly designed cluster that will fail in a few miles.

This issue screams class action. Anyone up for it.
