I recently purchased a 2006 E500. I notice after the car has been parked for awhile that when I first open the drivers door for a few seconds there is a series of clicking noises coming from the passenger side of the car, near the floor...or the sound could be from the engine area. Anyone know what this sound is related to and if its normal to do so?

 

Hmmm... If the clicking is at a regular interval coming from beneath the dash, it could be your car alarm relay activating. This would mean that somebody has disconnected the horn somewhere.

 

I usually park the car in the garage at our home and don't set the alarm (i.e. I don't lock the car when it is parked inside a locked garage), so not sure the relay/horn/alarm theory would make sense if the alarm is not set. What ever is the source of the sound, it is clearly drawing down some battery power and that is what concerns me...other than the interior lights coming on, I don't understand what all the clicks and noise is about from just opening the door. Odd, if I close the door and reopen it, no sounds....it only seems to make the sounds/clicks after it has been closed for awhile (i.e. at least an hour).

 

sounds like your sbc pump is precharging the brakes and the brake resivor which is normal if that is the noise your hearing
