Default Alternator?

I ran through a very deep puddle. All the warning lights are on and the car is acting like the alternator is shot. Charge the battery and starts right up then the electricty slowly drains until its stalls.

1. could it just be the voltage regulator?

2. how do i get the darn alternator off?

3. where is the least expensive source for parts?

Default Alternator?

i know alot about these w124 models as i have just fully rebuilt my 200. the alternator removal is a very complicated prodedure to explain but can very easily be done. the regulator is contianed within it so i recoment that you remove and replace it at a breakers yard. just say it was undercharging a little and the exchange shouldnt cost you more than £30.00. to me it sound just like a loose wireing terminal on the loom so first of all removethe electric plug and connect it agian. i would thenreplace the batterywithgood batery temperarally and put a voltmeter onit if it reads above 13v then it should not be the alternator itself but possibly the regulator. reply to this anyway or email me asap and i would be glad to explain further. sorry about the typing but the this site does not alow you to type amanding your writing

Default Alternator?

i would replace the alternator, no chance to waste all the time.Remove the belt1) front near the servo power steering, 2)top timing screw3)schock absorber

Then loose the alfternator, remove it and replace it.

local market, by sending in your old alfternator before ordering, you can get a rebuilt one for $150 at www.groupbui.com/autoparts

But, I found it is hard to reset the belt. But before doing costly expense check your alternator. Simply run the car, leave it run and unplug the battery. If it's still running then it not the alternator problem ! If, it is shot off, then replace the alternator.
