99 E320 Shifting strange?
Hello, I am considering purchasing a 99 E320. I have only ever previously driven 300 E type Mercedes.
I recently took a short test drive in an E320 I'm interested in, but I noticed when shifting it seems as if the engine power is reduced during each up shift and returns after the shift is complete. It otherwise seemed to shift smoothly. I could not tell, is there a feature that electronically reduces throttle during shifting, or is it something unusual?
I do not know which position the W/S switch was in, and I did not change it.

The 99 E320 does reduce the throttle in order to change gears. This decreases the amount of wear caused int the gearbox during shifting, and gives a smoother shift. The other thing which you may notice is that the engine revs more when the car is cold. This is to heat up the catalytic convertor quicker.
