I have a 97 E320 that was Tboned in the right front quarter panel / door a year ago. Fender, lights, passenger door, rimall replaced new. In addition, my interrior mirror broke in the crash and was replaced with a new unit from Mercedes. Within 1 month of getting it back from a very good body shop, my remotes stopped working. I replaced batteries in both remotes, reprogrammed them as required, checked fusesin the engine compartment and under rear seat. All fuses good and reseated. I cannot lock the doors or trunk from the outside via the remote or the key alone. I can however lock and unlock all of the doors when I hit the dash board lock button.
I was told by Mercedes that the computer is defective. I am also told that this unit sits on or under the front passenger quater panel (where the damage occurred). Can anybody give me a troubleshooting tree to check this out? I get a red light on the remotes when the button held down, but it does not matter if I point at the door, the trunk or mirror. I see no light changes on the red / green leds for any of these. How can I check to see if the signal is getting to the computer and then how can I fake the computer into sending a signal to the door lock system or alarm?
Please help!
