1997 E300 Diesel, loose rear suspension, darts left and right
Hi, I just bought my 2nd Mercedes diesel. I love them! My 'new' 1997 E300 Diesel has 251,000 miles. While driving straight down the highway the rearend shifts from side to side as you hit small bumps or any irregularity in the road. It also does this when you put your foot into the throttle and then let off. When you put your foot into the throttle, the rear end goes to the left about 1-2 inches and you have to turn the steering wheel to the left to compensate for it! Then when you let off the throttle it will go back to the right. It seems like something would definitley be VERY obvious underneath, but I CANNOT FIND IT! I am a certified Ford Dealership Mechanic, and have been working on cars for 20 years. Something has to be loose in the rear suspension. I've had a prybar on all the rubber mounts, while the suspension had weight on it and while it was unloaded.........nothing obvious. Has anyone ran into something like this before?

I actually did an alighnment today at work, but not on a Benz Alighnment rack. What is the difference in a Benz alighner? After doing a few adjustments, the steering wheel was crooked going down the road. The alighnment machine said to use a 'tow pressure bar' that I did not have. How much does a 'Benz" alighnment go for at the Mercedes Dealer? Thankyou.

I'm surprised nobody seems to have the same issue that I'm having. This suspension is a horrible feeling, and seems like another E300 with high miles some where would do the same thing that somebody has found the issue???
