Slight Clunking in steering when moving wheel left and right
I have a 96 SL 500. I have recently noticed a clunking sound when moving the wheel left and right at idle. Also makes the same noise when slowly going over a parking lot speed bump or turning in and out of a driveway. I originally thought it was right side only, but it is both. Had a recent oil change and they did not find anything. Have had wheels off but can't duplicate noise. Any ideas?

could be ball joints, usually noticable over bumps... could be tie rods. noticable when turning wheel.
check under the car there are 4 cross member bars that cross diaganally at the 4 corners of the car.. they come loose and do cause noise when the body flexes. they go from frame rails to subframe area of the car. really need to tighten them good, large inside torx bolts or like 15 point inside type bolts i think.
common issue on the older sl cars
