1993 300e purchase
Looking at a 1993 300e from pa it’s an auto 2.8 with 180k on it car shows it’s age but is in good condition. It has some sun fading but is not a rot box. The owner claims has taken it on some long trips and still drives it weekly as he has another car also. The car appears to be well maintained and not neglected he’s asking $800. Judging by his fb marketplace photos he lives in a nice area and not a trailer park and has a few other nice vehicles. I’ve had some high mileage bmws in the past and am mechanically inclined, never had a Mercedes. I guess I’m more worried about the auto trans than anything else. Is this a good car? Anything I should be worried about or look out for? Or should I just say pass?
I'm selling my 1999 E300 Turbo Diesel. The car runs very well, has great pickup and gets 35 mpg on the highway. I am the 2d owner. Bought the car in FL in 2006 and brought it back to south Jersey on the Auto Train and have taken very good care of the car since, including garaging it. Not sure of the FL owner garaged it. I have had the car regularly serviced and repaired by MB specialists. The glow plugs were replaced maybe 3 years ago. Thanks to a suspension overhaul at an MB dealer (details available) the car is remarkably quiet. As they say, with 207k miles it is just getting broken in. As with all MB cars like the W124s and the W210s one must keep a sharp eye out for rust. I need a lot more than $800 for it. More like $3,000. If you are interested text me at 967-741-5897 or leave a reply. See PS below.
BTW: Mechanically inclined is great. I don't know if there is a way to use the car's computer connection for the MB diagnostic system let alone how to actually use the system. All 3 of my long-time mechanics use this system. I have had no problem getting parts online, such as Bosch glow plugs etc. If the 1993 car you were thinking about is/was a W124 (I'm fuzzy on when the changeover to the W210 occurred_ my recollection is that you might have more room to work in the engine compartment than in the W210.
PS: To send a text use the number above but subtract 1 from each of the 10 digits.to get a working number.
