while driving today around 80 mph i noticed the rpms started to increase although

i did not increase the mph with acceleration. I pulled over and started again as I accelerated the rpms would not drop down to normal amount as dictated by mph.


At one point they started to red line and then would only go back to normal if i put the gear in neutral the rpms would drop down to normal sometimes and then not other times. This problem is resolved sometimes by putting the car in neutral while still driving at one point it started to red line at 65 mph. My fear was that i would blow the engine. I had this problem before and for the life of me cannot remember how it was fixed. but the problem was fixed and that was about a year or more ago.


I checked the hoses and all looks ok. I would appreciate some advice and i will look and see if i can find the service record. thanks
