Default Torn Front Apron

I have a 2000 CLK 430. I know about the problem with the apron if you pull up too far to a parking stop. The pegs holding the stop get caught under the grill and pull out and tears out the tounge in the middle.

Just about 2/3 of the CLKs I see on the road are missing the tounge or have a torn apron.

Well, I let my wife borrow my car while hers was in the shop and guess how it was returned.

I took it to my Mercedes dealer (I know there are cheaper fixes out there but my car was in prestine shape I wanted it done right) and it cost $1600 to fix.

It was hard not to notice there were 3 other CLKs with the same problem waiting to be fixed. The repair shop manager told me he averages 2 repairs a day with the same problem.

I was wondering if anyone complained to Mercedes regarding this issue and how they responded.

thanks
j
