Pax seat- sign of life but no movement when trying to get in the back

Any ideas on this little chestnut.......

My CLK320 (2003) passenger seat is being stubborn and will not move when the side handle is lifted for someone to sit in the back.

All fuses are good in the trunk fuse box and the seat moves fine with the controls on the side of the door.

When the seat (top side) handle is lifted it stays up and then after a few seconds, clicks back down. The seat remains still.

When the seat did work........the handle was raised, the entire seat would elegantly slide fwd to allow pax to slip in the back. Now they jump in something akin to the Dukes of Hazard....not good for the interior or my credibility with the neighbors.

So, any assistance to regain my losing community standing would be well received.....failing that I'll have to move to Hazard County (if only I knew where it was).
