Too much oil?

Too much oil?
Please tell the volume that is proper to be added - I have to siphon some off!
I did not get to my regular mechanic this afternoon
for oil change (very little driving afterward) and tonight the warning (very RED) light popped on telling me to remove some oil... mine is c240 (V6)- they put 8.5 qts in... I do not want my wonderful baby to be damaged. Is 8.5 too much if properly drained? If so, what were they thinking? Ideas, please?

Your owner's manual will tell you the oil capacity for your engine. If it were me, I would drive it BACK to the person who put the oil in and tell them the overfull light is on and they need to drain the proper amount out to equal the required amount. You can also tell them that if they don't do this for you, you will hold them liable for any engine damage that may occur due to the amount of oil they put in. That should evoke some action. If that doesn't work, ask to speak to the manager or owner about it. Look it up first and see what your manual says, then go for it. You yourself shouldn't have to be dealing with this. They did it. Let THEM undo it. And, please, don't go back there. No matter what.

First i wouldn't drive the car at all. I would have the shop tow the car back to their shop and have them fix the problem. Driving it can cause damage. 8.5 quarts of oil is ALOT. Call the shop and tell them they over filled your car and you want them to tow it to their shop and fix it.
