Default Question for Sleepwaker / steering noise

I have `98 C230 and I can`t figure out where low screeching sound is coming from every time I turn the steering wheel to the LEFT. Power steering fluid is OK and there is no leak. By the way, is there any greese fittings points on the car? Thank you.

Oh my god same here. I have a 2000 C280 that does the same thing. Let me guess it does not do it when its cold thou? I got my sterring fluid changed thinking it would help but nothing at all. As long as its cold out it makes a funny sound. There are a few people with W202 That have ha the same problem.

I'm no pro guys, but my past experience with other cars leads me to believe a loose or slipping belt. Usually the steering is harder than normal.

If not that I'd say your P/S pump is on the fritz.... somtimes dirt gets in there and makes a mess.

that depends on where the noise is coming from. it's either steering gear, steering pump or steering column.

if the car experienced a minor accident on the front or hard bumps that bent any tierod or suspension parts, it will affect the steering also.

best way is to pinpoint first the exact location of the noise. then we start from there.
